Build and Study Flashcards in Your Browser

Flashcards remain one of the most effective study techniques, backed by decades of research on spaced repetition and active recall. This tool lets you create a deck, study it with a clean flip-card interface, and track which cards you know and which need more work — all without creating an account or installing an app.

Creating Cards

Type a question or prompt on the front, and the answer on the back. Cards are saved instantly to your browser’s local storage, so you can close the tab and come back later without losing anything. Edit or delete cards at any time from the card list.

Study Mode

Click Study All to work through your entire deck, or Study Review Only to skip cards you have already marked as known. Each card displays the front side first. Click or press Space to flip and reveal the answer. Use the arrow keys or buttons to move forward and backward through the deck.

Progress Tracking

As you study, mark each card as Known or Needs Review. The deck summary shows your totals at a glance: total cards, known count, and review count. The progress bar in study mode shows how far through the current session you are.

Shuffle for Better Retention

Research shows that interleaving — studying cards in a random order rather than a fixed sequence — improves long-term retention. Click the Shuffle button during study mode to randomize the order of your deck.

Import and Export

Use Export JSON to save your deck as a file you can back up, share, or load on another device. Use Import JSON to load cards from a file. Imported cards are added to your existing deck, so you can merge multiple sources.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Study mode supports three keyboard shortcuts for hands-free studying:

  • Space: Flip the current card
  • Right / Down arrow: Move to the next card
  • Left / Up arrow: Move to the previous card

Use Cases

  • Language learning: Vocabulary words on the front, translations or definitions on the back
  • Medical and science students: Terms, formulas, or anatomy questions with answers
  • Certification prep: Practice questions for professional exams
  • History and trivia: Dates, events, or facts you need to memorize
  • Meeting prep: Key talking points or data you want at your fingertips

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my flashcards saved?

Yes. All cards are automatically saved to your browser's localStorage. They persist between sessions as long as you use the same browser and do not clear your browsing data.

Can I transfer my flashcards to another device?

Yes. Use the Export JSON button to download your deck as a file, then use Import JSON on the other device to load it. This also works as a backup.

What keyboard shortcuts are available in study mode?

Space bar flips the current card. Right arrow or Down arrow moves to the next card. Left arrow or Up arrow moves to the previous card.

What does marking a card as 'known' do?

Known cards are tracked separately in your deck. You can choose to study only cards that need review, skipping the ones you have already mastered. This helps you focus your study time on weaker material.

Is there a limit to the number of cards?

There is no hard limit from the tool itself. The practical limit is your browser's localStorage capacity, which is typically 5-10MB — enough for thousands of text-based flashcards.
